I’ve been contemplating taking my camera with me on a kayak outing and here’s what I happened upon, just a short distance away, when I got the nerve to risk bringing it aboard.
I decided to overcome my fear of the camera being tossed over or a wave sweeping the kayak and giving it a good soaking. The payoff was huge. I might have to try a GoPro, next, or at least a water-proof camera bag.
These American white pelicans do not seem to mind the clanging or horn blowing emanating from the yard nearby at Bay Shipbuilding. Each year, their numbers seem to increase on Dunlap Reef, the small island located just north of the Old Steel Bridge in the Sturgeon Bay Channel. One of my favorite spots to kayak, I’m amazed that I can observe such beautiful natural sights so close to the bustle of the City of Sturgeon Bay. The Northeastern Wisconsin Audubon Society may want to update their statistics on the relatively new habitat of this beautiful species.
